How to Keep Your Apartment Warm WITHOUT Running Up Your Bill

When the weather gets colder, the bills get bigger...but it doesn’t have to be that way! Here are some tips to keep your apartment warm in the winter WITHOUT running up your bill!

Keep the Thermostat Set to at Least 68 Degrees

Make sure that you leave the heat on, even when you leave to go to class or work, and especially when you go home for winter break. You may think that turning the heat off every time you leave helps you save money, but it actually doesn’t. It uses much more energy if you are turning the heat on and off than it does if you leave it on consistently at a lower temperature.. It is also very important to keep the heat on so the pipes in your apartment do not freeze and burst. You will need to keep the apartment warm enough so things don’t freeze!

    Add Rugs

If you live in an apartment with no carpet, adding rugs could help make your place a little warmer. It can especially help on chilly winter mornings so your feet don’t freeze when you get out of bed!

    Use a Humidifier

Not only will this help to combat the dry winter air, it will also help to keep your apartment feeling warmer. Humidifiers add moisture to the air and the more moisture that is present in the air, the warmer the area will feel. This can also help if you start to come down with a cold!

Use the Sun to Your Advantage

In the winter, the sun is out a lot less frequently than it is at other times in the year. Make sure that you are utilizing the warmth of the sun as much as possible. During the day, when the sun is out, make sure that your curtains or blinds are open so the heat can come into your apartment.

    Bundle Up

Although this may seem like the most obvious suggestion, it is worth noting. Make sure you bundle up! Wear your favorite sweaters and fuzzy socks and always keep a blanket nearby!
